Punishment -v- Discipline

To discipline is to make boundaries known, and that those boundaries are expected to be followed and not crossed. To make aware all pertinent information in order for the pet to adhere to those things properly. Training them in a particular behaviour and to help them understand the intricacies of behaviour and the reasons behind particular behaviour training.

To discipline is to repeat expectations of behaviours, and to reiterate the reasons behind expected behaviours and tasks, and continuously making sure the reasons are understood fully. Correcting a minor infraction, a forgotten task, a misstep in behaviour. Correcting with the intent to teach, and to help the other learn.

Punishment to me: A last resort, by far not involved in anything that could be considered fun, or play. Something that I would prefer not to have to resort to, because to me it means dealing with a behaviour that continues to go against all set precedences, behaviour that acts out regardless of expectations, behaviour that is bad just to be bad.

Punishment means an absolute feeling of disappointment in the submissive/slave for an action, or a repeatedly uncorrected (on their part) behaviour. If boundaries are set and agreed to, yet rebelled against repeatedly, then punishment or a separation must happen. Or if there is an infraction of a -very- serious sort that could not be handled well enough by discipline.
