Safety Tips II

Use a traffic light system when scening!

GREEN Don't stop, you're doing fine, I'm enjoying this, please continue!

YELLOW I'm feeling discomfort, please slow down or we may have to stop altogether.

RED Stop immediately! Something hurts or something is going wrong! Or, you are pushing my limits!

Don't try to push a sub through pain, it may end up damaging him, and also will probably destroy his trust in you.

If play is halted in this way, it's best to stop for the whole session. Attend to your sub with any medical supplies, if needed, food and drink, and lots of reassurance and appreciation. Begin play again another session.

LEAVING YOUR SUBMISSIVE ALONE DURING PLAY
Don't do this! Especially if the sub is bound to an article of furniture, gagged, and blindfolded.  If you absolutely must leave the sub alone, let it be for a few minutes only, remind him how he can free himself, undo the blindfold and loosen the gag, put the phone near his hand, check he has his copy of the key to his restraints, and do not let any doors lock behind you and the sub while you are gone. I would probably remove the restraints, so he can move freely in my absence. Don't take risks with another's life!

CHECK, CHECK, CHECK!
Constant checking of your submissive is absolutely important! Some subs refuse to let you know if/when they are in pain, and if things are going wrong. Though they have the option of using their safeword, some just won't. It's up to the Dominant to be vigilant, notice any changes in their breathing, their temperature, swelling or discoloration of the skin or joints, etc. Personally, if a sub won't use their safeword with me, and I notice they are in a lot of pain or discomfort, I'll stop play, and won't play with that boy again.

1) Discoloration of the limbs
Watch out for skin discoloration, or swelling. Circulation can be cut off if tying someone too tightly, or if they struggle against their bindings. This can lead to permanent nerve or tissue damage if circulation isn't restored quickly. Loosen the ropes, or cut them off entirely.

You can always buy new rope, you can't replace an amputated leg or arm due to carelessness.

2) The tightness of the ropes
You should be able to fit a finger in between the skin and the rope. If not, the ropes are too tight.

3) The submissive's breathing
Wheezing or rapid breathing, not the arousal kind, can indicate problems. Cut off the bindings and reassess the situation.

4) Check with the partner
Ask regularly how they are doing and whether things are too tight or parts are going numb. You can do this in an erotic way that doesn't break the scene.

5) The position of the submissive
Be sure the person tied up gets to switch their positions at least once an hour to prevent circulation problems.
